Caroline spent time with women whose lives were profoundly affected by pelvic mesh implants, a medical procedure purported to be the  ‘gold standard’ in treating bladder incontinence and vaginal prolapse. The images capture the physical, emotional, and personal impact of living with complications from a medical treatment that was intended to help. This work was published on the BBC News website, bringing visibility to a controversial medical issue and the women whose stories are often unheard.
